Overwhelming Waves

You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them.

Psalm 89:9 NIV

Do you ever have those feelings of being completely overwhelmed? Like, the waves are crashing over you, and no matter how often you try to come up to catch a breath, more waves just keep coming at you?

Perhaps those waves are family or friends, work, chores or events? The list can go on and on. For me, it’s just life in general. Sometimes, I pile so much own, I create MY OWN waves of anxiety. Never being able to just sit still and be.

God wants us to be still and to know Him. Here lately, I have been trying to be still and sit in his word, taking a little extra time each week to read my bible or commit to a bible study. Let me tell you, just reading his words, is calming to my soul. I think we sometimes forget that in the every day hustle and bustle, He is still just waiting for us to realize that if we just pick up our bible, and read what He is trying to tell us, that maybe we wouldn’t be overcome with the waves of life. Maybe we wouldn’t have snapped at our kids or the poor cashier at Starbucks, if we just took a step back from our own issues and realized that God has his hand out, waiting for us to take it, so he can pull us out of the anxiety and worry over every day life and pull u s in to Him. He WANTS us to want Him. Psalms 146:6 Says that He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them— he remains faithful forever.

So even though we are trying to ride this out on our own, God is trying to tell us He’s got you! He is faithful forever, and He’s not going anywhere. I know I can get overwhelmed with work. I work two jobs, I serve on our Worship team, and still trying to find time for the people I love in this life. I realize that I have spent so much time trying to run from my problems, solve them myself or let the enemy try and convince me that I am not good enough and I don’t deserve the things that God has in store for me, that if I just look up, I would see Him there, waiting patiently for me. No more running is necessary.  He is always going to be there waiting for me, to bring me back to the shore. And when I am at the shore, I can sit in the sand and watch the waves, and how calm and beautiful they look when I am not trying to fight them on my own.

God already knows where we are going, what we are meant to do and how to get us there. He knows the plans He has for us, so just let go. Talk to God today, He’s reaching His hand out to you, you just need to take it. Tell him your troubles, talk to Him as if He is sitting next to you. He knows. Just acknowledge Him and His presence. Breathe. And let Him handle the hard stuff. The battle is already won.  So trust in Him and sit back and listen to the waves, for even they obey Him.
